Thread: Gloomis or Shimano Rods

    Default Gloomis or Shimano Rods

Guys, I'm trying to decide between a GLoomis GL3 rod or Shimano Cumara casting rod. Both are 7 foot rods and are rated for the same 12-20lbs. Anybody use the GL3 graphite or have experience with the Cumara series? These are mid to high end on their lines of rods. I can get either one for about the same price. Inputs welcomed. Thanks

I really like the feel of the Cumara as well as the GL3, but if you have that much to shell out, I would recommend you just step up to the IMX, better yet, get a custom IMX.

Stick the grip/rod in a lathe and split it, then polish and flexcoat the exposed blank with some spiffy wraps?

Thanks for all the input guys. I decided to go with the GL3 and in comparing it to the cumara it just felt like better quality, the cumaras were a bit lighter because of the split grip but the loomis finish and guides look like they would be more durable. By the way if anyone wants to buy the cumara casting you can get a sweet deal right now for $120 brand new. That's only 20 bucks more than say a Clarus rod at sports authority which is two steps down from cumaras.
