    Default July 4th Crabfest

Hit Ventura about 10am on the 4th. Sunny, warm and really crowded at the ramp. Sailing, fishing, ski, jet, kayak and canoe you name it we were all trying to launch at once. Loaded the traps with used bait from crabbing 6 weeks ago. dropped inside and out. Harbor Patrol showed up and said we had to move the 2 traps we dropped at the entrance. This is what we got on the first pull.

Relocated the 2 traps to the outside then pulled the traps on the inside.
No one home so moved them to the outside. Came back inside to fish the kelp. nothing but smelt but we needed extra bait. All traps were now on the outside and we had a steady pick of crabs and all the usual bycatch.

It was tough throwing back the bugs. Total score 3 bugs returned, 21 male rock crab, 3 spider crab and a variety of fish returned. My friends son was not too happy throwing back the bugs and the fish.

Dinner of crabs, ribs, chicken skewers, corn, cucumber salad and lots of beer. :P :P :P

After sunset on the beach in Ventura it got cold so we headed inside to the fireplace and watched the firework from inside.
Hope everyone had a fun 4th!!!

LOL I feel you about throwing the buggers back, I was at San Clemente Pier a couple of weeks back and got a 5lb and 8lb bug :rain: Had to watch them swim away
