Thread: DVL tomorrow

    Default DVL tomorrow

Been a few weeks since I've been to DVL. Headed there tomorrow to focus on stripers. Planning on the bait and wait by the inlet. I'll give a detailed report tomorrow.

Quick question...I use a 1/0 octopus hook for putting sardines or Chovies on. I seem to always lose a lot of bait, probably from not hooking the bait on properly. Any guidance on a step by step to hooking the frozen bait? Thank you!

If you brine your sardines it will toughen them up and keep them on the hook better. If you don't have time to brine them overnight make sure you let them thaw slowly. Otherwise they will turn to mush and fall off the hook easily. It's been a while since I have used cut bait, but I hooked my baits through the toughest part of the bait (skull or backbone) and double-hook the bait.

There are guys with more experience that may have more/better advice, but this always worked for me.

    Take care.
