My nephew and I fished the Owens for the first time on Friday and Saturday for the graduation outing of the SPFF Club. The wind was nasty and the bite was slow but as Roderick Haig-brown said: “There will be days when the fishing is better than one’s most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home”.

Despite the storm, I did manage one small brown on one of my home made brassie flys which was exciting (thanks for the photo Michael. Now I need to learn how to hold a fish so it looks bigger).
Of course, on Sunday when we had to head home, the weather was perfect. We definitely want to go back.
