Default Bishop Creek Drainage 05/25/12 (Picture Heavy)

Another fine trip up to the Sierra’s. Once again we stayed up at Four Jeffrey’s and fished around the Bishop Creek area. The weather was damn cold! It was snowing when we arrived on Friday and continued to snow on Saturday. I believe Friday was a chilly 23 – 39 degrees. Saturday was not much better.

Never the less we decided to hike up to Grass Lake on Saturday. I don’t know if it’s my pack, my information, or if I am plain out of shape, but that hike kicked my butt. I read it was supposed to be only a 1 mile hike with a 300 ft elevation gain. With what felt like 30 minutes of switchbacks while hiking up an incline it seemed a lot longer than 1 mile. Once we arrived to the lake it was really nice. A couple other families were there, but before we knew it we were alone at the lake. It was pretty cold up there and snowing. The fishing was a blast! Virtually a baby Brook on every cast with the fly and bubble rig. I brought up the fly rod, but could not get it out far enough to where the fish were at.

Sunday we rented a boat over at Sabrina and toted around a bit. We landed a few on the troll then another dozen over at the inlets. The streamer of choice was the Wooly Bugger. The trout seemed to like it so I kept at it.

Here are some shots of this trip....

What a great report! I learned the hard way about the grass lake hike 2 years ago, it's actually 1000 ft gain over a mile, but well worth it. It was only partially iced out for that memorial weekend, you had some great conditions!
    Thanks for the cool pics!
    ps
My avatar pic is my first brookie ever, caught at Grass lake.

Ok that makes more sense if its a 1,000 ft gain. Are you sure its only a mile via the trail? I swear it felt a lot longer, but maybe that was because of the incline.

Oh it's gotta be over a mile. Jared's book has a major typo regarding the hike to grass lake!
