Default Mammoth and surrounding area 6/7,8,9.

Before I get to my post, I want to say thank you! Thank you to everyone that gave me advice, in either my post or via PM, I truly appreciate it. Now for the recap of the trip. You made my first Sierra trip ever a great success.

A couple of buddies and myself headed out from Orange County to hit up the Eastern Sierra's over the weekend.

6/7: We left Orange County at 1 am. On our long journey north we talked about where we could fish that day. We decided we were going to fish Crowley. Pull up to Crowley just before opening. Headed to the tackle shop and rented a flat bottom boat. Fished lot's of places on the lake. A few of the names I remember were Sandy Point, Alligator Point, and another location I can't recall the name of. While in the line up I was talking to a angler about what works and doesn't work for Crowley. He had me slightly worried, he told me point blank, you can't drop shot power worms and be successful at Crowley. I was sad, that is my favorite way to fish. I digress. Through out the day we had a steady constant bite until the wind got the better of us at 4:30pm. We fished drop shots, nightcrawlers, and garlic power bait. All in all a great steady bite. Ended up with limits of stockers, and 5 perch. 2 Brown's were CPR'd a couple of rainbows were also released. Exhausted we headed to the cabin and that was all she wrote for that day.

6/8: Convict Lake was destination number 2. Man what an amazingly long hike to the good spots. It's ok though, fresh mountain air, a bit of exercise, and a few does never hurt anyone. We fished the inlet and never moved. After the hike we set up and were fishing just after 9:00am. Another nice steady bite. Luckily we were in the woods secluded from both the beating sun and the abusive wind. Fished with the same things we used at Crowley. 19 rainbows and 1 brown caught. Several rainbows and the brown were released. Left the lake at 4:00pm. Stopped at some sporting good stores and The Trout Fitter. Ate dinner and slept.

6/9: Upper Owens River, not much happening for us using artificals. Walked the river for a bit, man what an amazing place. Peaceful and serine. Fished around for a couple of hours with no luck. Decided to head up to Lake Mary. On our way there I told the guys, "I want to see a bear." Lo and Behold there was a bear in the road that goes around the lake. How ironic. I had my tube with me. The guys I was with have never float tubed before. Set it up for them and they took it out for about an hour each. They really enjoyed it. Now to get them to finalize the purchase . The fishing was steady on nightcrawlers. Had a few hook ups on drop shot worms. My buddy finally managed to hook and land his first fish by himself on the drop shot which turned out to be a nice 2lb alper. Power bait wasn't working, mice tails were. Ended up leaving with 18 fish landed 7 of them were released. Dink city besides the two alpers that were caught.

Man this trip was amazing. Each place had their own bit of beauty to them. Each one so very different. I can't wait to make it back up there. It was such a blast with friends, fishing, and fun!

Sorry for the lack of pictures. My friend has all the pictures and videos we took. I am going to get a DVD of them and post them ASAP.

Thanks again to everyone that was willing to share information with me and make this trip a success!

Sounds like an amazing trip. Good job not listening to the advice at crowley and better job at catching at crowley. That is a big lake and its hit or miss with more misses for me. The bears at mary fish eaters. Two years ago a bear came on the shoreline and took our stringers one by one. There were 6 stringers with 20+ fish.
