Thread: casting questions....

  1. #1

    Default casting questions....

If I am looking to cast under 1/4 ounce spinners and lures, which setups are best for me but not flyrods ?
Should I be looking at primarily spinning gear or is there some bait cating setup for very light lures ?

    Spinners are the best choice....
the few Baitcasters that can do it are mostly high dollar ($400 range)..

I use Shimano 1000 series spinning reels. A good reel, but I believe a reels quality, shows in the retrieve and not the cast. The reel isn't moving during the cast. If the inner lip of the reel is clean and abrasion free, the line should spool off just fine. I mostly use 4# Maxima line, and I replace it two or three time a season. Keeps it fresh with minimal memory. A lot like myself. 4# should cast better than lighter weights, as it carries more mass/weight. A full spool should cast a bit farther because of less friction with the spool.
    Good luck and have fun.
