    Default Finding mackerel out of Newport and or Dana Point.

    Where leaving on a private fishing boat this weekend out of Newport Harbor. We would like to catch some mackerel for cat fishing this summer.
    Any one know of some areas were mackerel are regularly caught. We will probably head toward Dana point if we do not find them near Newport Harbor.

    Mackerel can be caught directly off of the pier from pretty much any pier, but in particular (from my experience) Balboa. The NP harbors also have plenty of them.

    Dana point is off and on for Mackerel. But there is a legion of people fishing for Macs and little sculpins off the Newport Pier.
