Make Your Own Sabiki Rigs

Materials needed:
- Yarn: yellow, white, red
- Small corrosion resistant hooks
- Strong thread (I use left over nylon rod wrapping thread)
- Finger nail polish.
- 12lb.-20lb. mono fishing line for main line.

These are a couple different hooks that I have used.
I've been fishing with the smaller hook sabiki rigs tied on 15lb which can hook Smelt, Sardines, as well as Mackerel.





Start with small diameter yarn and unravel the strands.
I like to tie my flies with a sparse bunch of yarn (I feel that it fishes better)
Cut off a piece and run it through the hook eye.
Depending on the hook, you might be able to force the yarn past the hook eye end gap.



Wrap the yarn to the hook shank with your thread and finish with a couple of half hitches then coat the thread with nail polish.
This Sabiki has been used successfully for several trips and is still holding up. Just keep an eye on the condition of your mono and retie the rig when it gets frayed.





I tie dropper loops about 12" apart and cut the loops and tie the fly on short drops
You can add beads if you have them. It's up to you



I store my rigs on square cards with notches cut in the corners and a slit on each side to secure each end of the rig.
I put each one in it's own ziplock sandwich bag
