Ok guys here is the late story on the gills. I did not really get to post anything because I was watching my grandson who is 1 1/2 yrs old. You can’t turn your back on him for a second or he is gone! I can wait to turn him into a world class gill fisherman. I want to say that,” I don’t mind sharing any info about the bite of any fish. Just hit me up when I post”. Hater’s need not reply! When I hit the lake I fished mostly the point because I was try get the bass into the mix even though it was about gills that day. The gills I think are on the move especially the bigger ones. I found them suspended from 16’ to 30’. The gills are not on the bottom of the lake. If you hit bottom it will probably be out of the depth range. There is 6’ of brush between the suspended fish and the bottom there is nothing in that zone except moss and snagged hooks. I was fly lining red worms, ½ of a night crawler and one slug from the backyard. (just for fun.) I found it in the yard with the red worm. I used ½ a night crawler which works to keep the little guys off the hook. I use 4lbs test with a small thin dry fly wire hook size #14. It took a while for the bait to sink but they would sometimes see it and come up to the surface and hit it. I also used slip bobber to get a better cast in the afternoon wind. Used a small split shot about 1’ up from hook to control the sinking of the bait. Slow sink is the key to a hook up. Later in the day I hooked a monster on 6lbs test and it broke me off. I seen it close to the surface. I have caught 8lbs bass on six pound test and landed the fish. This gill was no joke! The bass are hangin with the gills. Throw a senko or a count down lure will probably get some bass. I did not hook any bass on the bottom. Hope this info helps with the bite Geraldlim & Fishmounter.
