I find that sometimes the fish are more interested after the dry fly sinks.

I use my shirt or small piece of chamois to dry a wet dry fly .... works everytime.... of course high sticking with my AMAGO keeps a fly nice and dry off the water and in the ZONE ...

If I'm fishing a floating fly I'm usually relying on the elk hairs to keep it floating.
Floatant is just another thing to carry. Another $6 to fork over..
If I'm really having problems keeping it floating I switch back to a monofiliment tippet from a fluorocarbon tippet.
Half the time I'm fishing flies that will go from surface to subsurface and back again anyways and don't need floatant.
Again the right amount of elk hair will help with that, if it is tied on and used right. It is hollow, and makes flies float.. if you don't cut the tips off in a haste of not using a hair stacker.H
Home tied is better than store bought.
I always find store bought flies fall apart faster than home tied.
Skyler and I don't even use "head cement". Whip finishing is usually sufficient by itself.
