Default Fly Rod - Deciding on the correct WT for my rod

    Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a new fly rod and was wondering what's a good wt for it? I'm looking to catch LMB and Stripers that are roughly 2 - 8LBS. I'll be fishing Perris lake where there's not much current. Also once in a while, I'd like to surf fish with it for some corbina's at the beach.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    I think you'll be good with a 7-8.

    Check with this group/club,
    sbflyfishers.com

They fish the surf with fly rods all the time and are very helpful with anyone interested in doing it. You don't have to join the club, but like FNN, to ask questions on the forum, you will need to register as a user.

Good luck, its a lot of fun. I just don't do it much anymore myself. To many other things going on.

I surf fish with a fast 6 wt rod. Need to go heavier only if the wind is really blowing.
