1st Annual River Clean-Up Day
Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at San Gabriel River

We had a smaller than expected turnout for this event but for the 6 or 8 people that did show, we made quite a difference in the area. We practically filled an entire dumpster with trash collected from the river banks and surrounding areas.

Some of the trash collected. Yes, that's a diaper in there! My girls and I collected several of these amongst other foul items left by inconsiderate people. (picked up using sticks of course!) Another thing I noticed was a lack of any signs posted advising people not to litter. I guess you could say people should know better anyway, but it's obvious they don't!

Thanks again to all who did show up to help out. I was amazed at how much better the place looked once we left. Our presence was even noticed by the picnicers and campers in the area, some of which even helped pick up a few items and threw them into our bags.

I also received several "Good Job's!" and "Nice work!" from some of the hikers and cyclists going through the area. It felt good to be doing something positive for our enviroment. Much thanks to The Glendale Sportsman's Club for their help with the effort. We're already planning our next clean-up soon!
