  Dixon Lake

Location and Directions:

1700 North La Honda Drive

     Dixon Lake is located north of San Diego near the city of Escondido. From Int. 15, take El Norte Parkway exit East to La Honda Dr. turn Left and follow the hill up to the lake.

General Info:

    Dixon is a small lake, open year-round 6am to dusk. Tent and RV camping is available and there is a nice picnic area for day use. There is a lake store for tackle and supplies. (619) 749-2755. For camping fees and other information, visit the Dixon Lake Website

Boating Info:

    Rowboats and electric-powered fishing boats are available for rent. No private boats allowed. Prices are as follows:
Rowboat - $14       ½ day Rowboat - $10
Motorboat - $25       ½ day Motorboat - $20

Fishing Info:

    This is a smaller lake but offers some fine fishing for it's size. A fishing permit is required for fishing. Fees are as follows:
Adults: $5
Seniors $4
Youth 8- 15 yrs. $3

Under 8 are free but any fish caught counts towards limit of paying adult.

    Rainbow trout are stocked during the winter and spring months by DFG and county hatcheries. Channel catfish are stocked during the summer. There are also some BIG bass and bluegill in the lake. No swimming/skiing is allowed which makes this a nice lake to fish. Night fishing is allowed during the summer months. There is a fish cleaning facility located near the concessions stand. Record largemouth bass is 21-pounds, 11-ounces taken May, 2003

Comments and Tips:

    Like many of the smaller trout-stocked lakes in San Diego county, Dixon has a reputation of producing some record-sized largemouth bass. Several 15+ bucketmouths have been posted here. Using soft-plastic trout imitation lures is a good method to entice one of these hogs into biting.
