  Green Valley Lake

Location and Directions:

     Green Valley Lake is located in the beautiful San Bernadino Mountains near the city of Running Springs. From I-10 take the 215 North to Hwy. 18 N. Then take 30 East to 330 North into the mountains to Running Springs. Then take 18 East to Green Valley Lake Rd. Go North about 3 miles.

General Info:

    The lake sets at an elevation of 7,200 feet, nestled amongst the pine trees of the San Bernardino mountains. It is a small lake of 20 surface acres and 1 mile of shoreline at full capacity. Max. depth is 45-50 feet. It is privately operated primarily as a fishing lake, but does have a picnic area with barbeques and several hiking and mountain bike trails. There is also a beach area / playground for the kids. As long as the lake is not frozen, it is open year-round, sunrise to sunset. Freezing usually occurs from Dec. - Feb., at this time the lake is closed. Camping is available at nearby Green Valley Campground run by US Forestry. (909) 867-2009, camping: (877) 444-6777. 20

    There are no private boats or float-tubes allowed on the lake. There are rowboats, paddleboats, and kayaks available for rent at the boat house (open 6am-8pm) Price is $15/3hrs.

Fishing Info:

    Fishing is $15.00 for adults, an extra $1 for another pole (two is max). $8 for children 4-15. Trout are the main action here. They are stocked regularly by the DFG and private hatcheries. There are also Bass, Catfish, and Crappie in the lake. The lake usually freezes in the winter. No ice fishing is allowed.

Comments and Tips:

    Went fishing last week at Green Valley Lake. The hot spot was near the dam, using Power Bait Green or night crawlers. If you get a boat. row down to the dam and hook onto it. Stay there and you should pull up some trout and bass. You can also fish from the shore near the dam (side nearest to the road) and should do good. - Bill


     There is something about the water in this lake that creates super mutant smart fish. There is an abundance of trout but they are more clever than the average trout, don’t ask me why I don’t know. so don’t forget you're fish gravy and coat the bait well to take off any irregular smells that the fish wont go for, and try to use a very light line. the lighter the better, not to many big fish in this lake so that wont be a problem.
