Location and Directions:
Pyramid Lake is located off of Interstate 5 approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles. From LA, take I-5 north to the Smokey Bear Rd. exit. Go left on Smokey Bear road to the lake. 30800 Bouquet Canyon Rd. Saugus, CA 91350
General Info:
The lake is approx. 1,360 surface acres at capacity with 21 miles of shoreline and over 700 feet deep in some parts. It is open year round from 6am to 8:30 in the summer, 7am to 5pm during the winter. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Entrance fee is $6.00 per car and $6.00 per trailer. There is no camping on the lake but several campgrounds are located at the Los Alamos and Oak Flat areas. Swimming, water-skiing and jets skis are allowed in approved areas. (661) 257-2790
Boating Info:
There is an 8-lane boat launch available with 180 trailer parking spaces at the marina and a car-top launch site located near the Spanish Point area. Launching is $14 per trailer. Boats must be off water by 7pm summer, 4:30 pm winter. Speed limit is 35 mph. Float-tubing is permitted with an approved PFD.
Fishing Info:
There are striped bass, trout, large and smallmouth bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill here. Some fairly big stripers up to 40 pounds have been taken here. This place is unique because there are very few lakes in S. Cal. that you can go to and catch a "bassin' Grand Slam" (stripers, largemouth, and smallmouth) all in one day. Minimum size for large and smallmouth bass is 12-inches.
Comments and Tips:
A boat is recommended here as much of the shoreline is steep and rocky and not accessible by foot.
