I took my 3 year old grandson Dustin out last fri 9/5/03 and we had a blast. I've caught stripers before on Lake Havasu, but nothing like the one's my grandson and I caught that day. He caught 2 and I caught 2 all in the 4-5 lb range, plus I also caught a 2 lb Lgr mouthbass. It was a super day for us, and he wants papa to take him again this Friday.

Comments and Tips:

In my opinion the BEST lake for striper!!!! Havent been skunked in 9 trips. Fish are eating yozuri trout lures in the mornings. I have had much success walking the shoreline and casting on boils. Also, flylined choves near the rocks are producing. mostly smaller fish one and a half to ten lbs. GREEN MAXIMA 8 lb test!!!!

Silverwood is pretty busy on the weekends, we try to stay away from there when the millions of people infest the water. If you want consistant 4-6 pound fishing, take the cleghorn beach entrance go all the way to the marina, pay the man in the trailer your $3 bucks and fishing off the west end of the marina.

Im running a 8 pound test, but my partner is running 6. Line up with a #4 hook, nothing silver, run about 16 inches up your line and pinch on a couple of #3 split shots. cut the heads and tails of of your frozen anchovies and cut them into three pieces. hook through the top or the bass will rip it right off of your hook. Drop you line about 3 feet out from the dock and let it hit the bottom. bring in the slack and take another 10 to 12 inches up. Set your pole down on the deck and watch your line. Dont try and set the first few small strikes or youll lose the fish, wait until you get a pretty big hit and softly set the hook and have fun.

We went out again last thursday, and took 12 4-5 pounders from that spot, if we had went earlier we would have limited at 10 a piece.

Good luck up at Wood, look for us on thursdays!
